We’ve been talking about Instagram on the blog a lot recently because, well, it’s our favorite social media site! Over the last few weeks, we have received some questions about how the platform works, and how to actually share content on the platform.

We thought we would dedicate this week’s blog post to the photo sharing platform, and will walk you through how to use Instagram for your practice!

What is Instagram?

Instagram is a social media platform dedicated to sharing photos (and now video)! It can be used to express an individual’s creativity, but it is also an amazing tool to use for marketing your practice.

How to Upload an Instagram Photo

Uploading and sharing a photo on Instagram is pretty simple! Once you have logged into your account, you’ll notice a menu bar at the bottom. You’ll want to select the icon with the plus sign, located in the middle of the menu bar. You will be directed to a page that shows all the photos in your camera roll. Go ahead and select the photo you wish to share!

Once you have selected your photo, hit ‘Next’ in the top right hand corner. You will then be taken to a page that will let you edit your photos directly in the app. We recommend editing your photos in external apps (see our favorites here), but if you want to make the process as simple as possible, Instagram gives you the option to enhance your photos here.

After you’re done editing, you will select ‘Next’ again, and will be directed to the new post page. On the top portion of this page, you will write out your caption for the photo. Captions can be fun and lighthearted to show your audience your brand’s personality, but it’s also important to include useful information. To catch the attention of your followers, keep the captions short and sweet!

Make sure you add the location of your practice to the ‘Add Location’ portion of the page. This will make it easy for your audience to see where your practice is located. You also have the option to tag other users in your photos before sharing.

If you have your Instagram account connected to your practice’s Facebook and Twitter pages, you can share your photos directly to those sites by selecting the appropriate options. This makes it easy to stay up to date on all your social platforms!

Once you’ve filled in all the appropriate information, you’re ready to post! After your photo has been shared, select the heart icon on the bottom menu bar and watch the likes and comments start rolling in!
